How can you remove selfish thoughts in your mind?

Whenever I made a big mistake or I was inconsiderate to others, my mentor always punishished me for picking weed in the back yard. If I didn't pick the roots all, my mentor asked me to do again. Why? !!

Hi, Jenny
I think human beings are selfish animals.
There are few people who are not selfish, but most of us think ourselves first.
It's human's basic instinct. When I have that kind of feeling, I think of one saying: All human beings are born equally have to be treated equally. And I think of the opposit situation like the situation that I was mistreated or I was hurt by sb's selfishness.
We are one under the God.
See you.

Very nice question. You make me think about myself deeply. i want to live with others. whenever i come across someone in need, i absolutely give hand. That's why we live togeter. i like the way your mentor asks you to pick up weeds. As much as i can, i want to help others, and i'm sure that it will give me something more than i expected.

The best way to remove is thinking nothing.
You know what I mean.
Everyone had a greedy mind. That makes problems. Stopping thinking about that is only way to overcome problems related to selfish.

Well,
You seem to be the last person who needs to think of being selfish...
You always think of others first..
Well, you already started the 1st step, bringing up the question: Am I selfish or not??
It's quite hard for me not to be selfish..
I mostly get to think of myself first then afford to think of others... Instead of not being selfish, I'd rather try to take myself and others into account at the same time^^

Hi Jenny,
I have agree with Ran in that humans' are naturally selfish as a survival trait. I know that I'm selfish about somethings and not about others but I try to be less selfish when I can. I think that really selfless people are more evolved than the rest of us.
